And while this tech isn’t new – I’ve been writing about it since 2017 – the hype bubble surrounding it is thoroughly modern. In nearly every aspect of our lives, we’re being told to prompt, automate and outsource, without asking the most important question: ought we, and under what conditions?To determine the answer, we’ll all need to become, as AI4ALL CEO Bo Young Lee has said, armchair AI ethicists. Now, I’m not suggesting that everyone needs an advanced degree in ethics. However, to be a responsible member of society (and our workplaces), we must be familiar with the basics of what it means to be a responsible builder, deployer or user.
