The FW Jobs Academy will continue to play an important role in securing Queensland women’s economic futures thanks to a two-year extension from the Queensland Government. This follows overwhelming demand for the initial program, with more than three applications for every available place.

“After two years supporting women in Queensland, I can say with absolute certainty that this program is doing exactly what it set out to do: help middle and older aged women to secure work by rebuilding their skills, confidence and employer connections. Extending this support ensures we can help even more women,” said FW founder and Managing Director Helen McCabe.

FW Jobs Academy is disrupting traditional pre-employment programs by offering tailored, flexible and fully virtual support for women who face barriers to employment. The program also connects women looking for work with employers, helping to reduce jobs and skills shortages and unlocking a raft of social and economic benefits for Queensland’s economy.

FW Jobs Academy is also partnering with the Crisafulli Government to administer a new Women’s Career Grant, providing up to $5000 to women who have been unemployed for six months or more, to help them meet the costs associated with the transition back into the workforce.

“This is about practical support to reduce the cost barriers and unlock opportunity, and economic security for Queensland women. Queensland women shouldn’t be locked-out of a job because they can’t afford the cost of job-seeking,” said Premier David Crisafulli.

“Whether it is about childcare to attend job interviews, covering relocation or transport costs, or purchasing workwear – these grants provide support where it is most needed.”

Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security, Fiona Simpson said, “The Women’s Career Grants will empower Queensland women who are ready to re-enter the workforce and just need some extra support to level the playing field.

“We’ve heard of women writing CVs on their phone, or no longer having appropriate clothing for job interviews, this will provide practical assistance to foster their economic independence.”

Funding can be used for technology, childcare, recertification and training, job readiness and workwear, as well as relocation expenses within Queensland.

Applications for the Women’s Career Grants will open on Monday 3 November 2025.
